Music and Life - "Every Life Has a Soundtrack"

One of my favorite Brett Eldredge songs is "Wanna Be That Song" (link below), and one of the verses in his lyrics is "every life has a soundtrack."

I do believe this to be true!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I listen regularly to Ed Mylett and one of his interviews this month was with Brett Eldredge; so of course, I was super eager to listen. (link below)

Ed talks about life as an art form, and makes the point that all of us are artists. There is a creative process to life, "as we go deeper into who we are, what we stand for, and what we believe."

Brett shares a lot about pressures, flow state, and being a "recovering perfectionist." He shares about his structure and routines of putting on his "armor" in the morning, setting intentions, journaling, going on hikes, as well as limiting phone time. Not too many talk about the limiting of phone time, as it relates to their "routines," and I am a huge advocate for limiting phone time, as well as computer time. He goes on to emphasize the importance of getting out of one's head and into one's life, and just "being."

• The Importance of Connection

• The Importance of Reaching Out to Help and for Help

• Patterns That Are Installed in Childhood

• When Did You lose Your Sense of Wonder?

Faith and Action

In my previous post I mentioned the topic "faith and action." Ed Mylett is one of my favorites to listen to on this topic, as Ed is a "man of faith," and he knows all about action. I am thrilled that he wrote a book, which will be coming out next month ("The Power of One More"); and though I have not had much time lately to read books, this is one I am looking forward to reading.

Talking with so many people daily, and with so many in the hospitality industry struggling on many levels, I thought this would be a great video to post for those feeling "stuck" in this "season" of their lives.. (link below)

Ed shares some great insights and perspectives on the following:

• "Outlast the Temporary"

• Vision and Peace

• Congruency of Thoughts and Actions

• Servant leadership

• Trials and Tribulations

• Emotions and Intentions

• Inspiration and Aspiration

• Memories, Moments, Contribution

A great Napolean Hill quote he mentions: "If the first plan which you adopt does not work successfully, replace it with a new plan; if this new plan fails to work, replace it in turn with still another, and so on, until you find a plan which does work. Right here is the point at which the majority of men meet with failure, because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail..."

Creativity, Art, and Faith

In past blog series, I often asked about "recommended podcasts/ books." My friend Tom had recommended the "Rich Roll" podcast, and I was listening to an amazing podcast episode recently, with Rich Roll and his guest Terry Crews, on strength through vulnerability, true power, and transformation.

I write a lot about creativity, the arts, and faith, and Terry shares a lot about his childhood and his own creative gifts. I believe we are all born with gifts. Unfortunately, many parents, teachers, religious leaders, peers, etc... do not support or encourage an individual's innate gifts, especially when these gifts are in the arts and of a creative nature. Terry was blessed to have an art teacher who not only saw and recognized his artistic talents and gifts, but also shined a light on them; supported, and then took impressive action to make sure that Terry got on a path to manifest those gifts.

I do believe that ultimately, creative gifts and talents do bear fruit and come to fruition, sometimes sooner, and sometimes later in life.. It is indeed clear that we are not to "hide" creative gifts. People are placed in our lives and on our paths to remind us and encourage us to nurture, and to find joy in our innate talents and gifts. Sometimes it is earlier in life, as was the case with Terry, and sometimes it is later in life.

Life is indeed a journey! It is always in the being and becoming, that we find the deeper wisdom of our own uniqueness and path.

Terry goes on to share a lot about his personal as well as professional challenges and struggles. I am sure that many can indeed take away and learn a thing or two, from this podcast episode..

Some of the many topics Terry and Rich chat about:

• Faith and Action

• Intimacy and Connection

• Gratitude, Peace, and Acceptance

• Artists as Idealists

• Addictions - they work, until they stop working

• The Serenity Prayer

• Service and Rabindranath Tagore's quote about service.(below)

• Terry's profound quote on "being" - "In order to have, just do, and in order to do, must be."
